Celebrating Organ Transplant Longevity

2nd Kidney Transplant 12/20/1977

My first transplant was done in 1968—donor/father. It was the 13th transplant performed at Oregon Health & Science University hospital. in Portland. I worked for three years after, and put myself through LPN school. After becoming an LPN. I worked on the Transplant Unit at O.H.S.U. and then on the Cancer Unit. I was married to a transplant
recipient for over 20 years. and my maid of honor was also a transplant recipient!! After my second transplant in 1977. I lost almost all of my hearing because of a drug interaction. I have been wearing hearing aids ever since, and in 1999 I got my hearing dog, Ramjet.

I attended my first Transplant Games in 1996. I am a volunteer for the Deaf, and Ramjet and I do demonstrations for groups. clubs, and schools. I have learned to keep going, no matter what.
