Name: Kristin K,
Location: Oklahoma
Transplanted on March 23, 1977 at Children's Memorial Hospital in
Oklahoma City. My surgeon was Dr. Samara, and my nephrologist was Dr.
James Wenzel. I was 13 years old at the time I was transplanted. The
transplant came from a deceased donor. It was his wish to have his
organs donated in the event of his death. He was a great guy.
Since then, I have graduated from high school and college. I earned a
dual bachelor's degree from Oklahoma City University in Mass
Communications and Liberal Arts, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I've been a
newspaper reporter covering hard news, an editorial assistant, a
columnist, and an office manager.
Currently, I am working as a professional dog trainer. I train people
and their dogs to compete in agility competitions. Agility is the sport
seen often on TV where dogs run over A frames, through tunnels and weave
pole and jump over jumps. It's very rewarding to still be healthy enough
to run in competitions with my dogs and come home with blue ribbons.
Aside from dogs, I enjoy playing hand bells at my church and socializing
with family and friends.
